I’ve lost much interest in this website, which was my favorite thing to work on during my spare time. However, I still feel a bit of an attachment to Aesthetic Intoxication the way one would feel about outgrowing their favorite outfit; no matter how many times you try to fit into it, you’re just too big for it. I feel that I can & will do bigger things beyond what I’ve done with this site.
My disinterest stems from all the vapid blogs I stumble upon. I’ve found myself yelling aloud, “WHO CARES THAT A CELEBRITY RETWEETED YOU!? WHAT THE HECK WAS THE POINT OF YOUR BLOG & WHY DID YOU FEEL IT WAS NECESSARY TO BE PUBLICIZED TO THE WORLD?” I acknowledge that complaining about the complainers doesn’t make me any better than them, so you can’t chastise me about that.
It is clear that we all have problems, but most of us who own a computer experience First World problems. In other words, our problems are quintessentially trite relative to an individual whose family expired due to famine. Try to put your issues in perspective instead of sulking in your woes. Attempt to alleviate another’s ailments, no matter how small the gesture.
This generation seems to receive their news from Twitter, Facebook, &/or other social media networks, which is absolutely pathetic. How many of you know about Amy Winehouse’s death, but didn’t know about the bombing & massacre in Norway? What about the collision of a bullet train in China killing 35? Or what about America’s ineffective congress that can’t work together to manage our debt? Why is it that following a celebrity’s tweets is more worthy of people’s attention spans than current affairs far greater than the celebrity?
Our constant petty complaints, I feel, can be partly attributed to our ignorance of the world around us. Some of us have it so good that we can afford to complain about pink socks. It is selfish, altricial, irresponsible, & dangerous for us to continue in this ignorant manner though. The evolution of our technology has far surpassed the evolution of humanity. In a time in which you can access the occurrences across the globe in 10 seconds, you’d think more of us would be well-informed.
Humanity likes to believe it’s superior because it possesses an incredibly beautiful & unique manner in which it expresses empathy, humility, & magnanimity. Yet, we destroy one another through warfare, political & socioeconomic instability instead of banding together through the advances of technological globalization. We’ve cast out world affairs as drivel & would rather focus our attention on celebrity gossip.
If I had half the power & influence of Britney Spears, I’d shed light on some of the world’s worst problems. Even if you have a blog of over 300 viewers, don’t underestimate how influential you can be. Humanity needs to catch up with its technology. We need to educate ourselves of the world’s corruption & greed in order to fight for justice. If we keep reading Perez Hilton instead of the news or feel apathetic about politics instead of voting, what will become of us? What will it take for us to care–when our rights have been stripped, when a country falls to shambles? All of that happened in this year alone, but who cares, when Lady GaGa is following you on Twitter, right? Knowledge is power. Don’t shroud yourself in darkness when there is much good you can do to change the world. Ignorance is not bliss, it is blind idiocy.

And an idiocy that will kill you’re not careful, might I add.
We also happen to live in the US, which is a country that glorifies celebrities instead of taking issue with any current events around the world (when the royal wedding was going on there were more US reporters than UK ones, to give an idea). It’s probably because our country is so cushioned, as anyone would be if they’d be living in the most powerful nation on the planet. Everyone strives to be politically correct these days because they’re too worried they might offend; there’s just no backbone to Americans it seems. That, in part with the celebrity gush has turned many people into whining, self-entitled brats. The most ironic ones on Twitter are the people who complain about others complaining and 10 minutes later go on about how they’re pissy about yet another aspect of their first world lives.
I agree with you completely, though if humanity is going to change it won’t be any time soon, if ever (speaking realistically). Governments will always be corrupt as they’ve been since the beginning of time, humans will try to assemble others into following them for an absurd cause, people will want things done faster and quicker (from the invention of the telephone to cell phones with touch screens for example), and every other aspect that comes with being human.
We can be idealistic, although the chances of us seeing major global changes are slim. It’s only once every few years that a great revolution is fought (civil rights for instance), but with the new ‘fad’ of social networking everyone’s too passive to make those moves again. Instead of fighting out in the street you have people rallying up a Twitter-fest. It’s a great gathering tool, say for Conan, but if you want change, REAL change, chances are it’s not going to happen via Facebook. The best we can do is help those around us the best we can, and hope that in turn they’ll turn around and do the same for others.

Absolutely, I wish our future wasn’t so glum. I don’t think it has to be, look at what’s happening in Libya. They banded together to rise up & revolt against their government. Of course, their government is even more inefficient than ours, but, too many Americans are unaware of the corruption behind the government. We’d rather just watch basketball than to seek out all the secrecy behind the most powerful country’s powerhouse. I can’t help but think of John Lennon’s “Imagine” & how beautiful the world would be if the song weren’t just an imagination, but reality.
I think you are completely right, and I admit that sometimes I care about celebrities, I don’t know why but I read about them, I read their tweets, I search for photos with them. I knew about the Norway incident by reading Vibeke’s blog and I found out about Amy’s death from yahoo.com. Anyway, I really don’t care why Amy died, I am sorry for her.
We need to stop being so ignorant and start fighting for the change in this world, the change that everybody expects and never happens. I think out generation should make the step forward and make a difference, but unfortunately playing games, skipping school, doing drugs, getting drunk, reading tabloids is much more important than the values of a person, the education we receive and our place in this society.
i’ve always liked how your blogs always have some kind of “meaning” to them. sometimes i just post a blog just to let my visitors now i’m not dead, and sometimes just because i feel i have to write something. they don’t always end up good nor interesting and they will probably be perceived as superficial even if it never was my intension for them to be so. (i’ve posted less of those lately though)
well you have completely right in all the points in this blog, and i’m so glad there’s bloggers in this world who’s more interested in world news than celebrities. i must admit though i read a little bit about celebrties, but i’m not as caught up in their lifes anymore, as i started to realize it’s my own which is the most important. if we want a change, then we have to make it ourselves.
closing your eyes for the real world is idiocy, but i don’t usally drag in news in my blog as i want to keep it just a “graphic and resource site with a little bit of my own life”, and not any big blogging site with big discussions. my site was supposed to be an escape from the real world, where i could get my thoughts on something else. but thank you for the tip, i will maybe have my new posts to include more of the news though.
thank you, i’m glad you liked it! (: i also think norway has handled everything pretty good. people all over the country has gathered together the last days with roses and speeches and songs to honor those who’s made it, those who’s dead and those who’s still missing. i was out yesterday with my rose, and it was great feeling a part of something bigger, and i think the burden will be “smaller” when you share it with someone else.
take care!!
I actually found out about the Norway shooting/bombing before Amy Winehouse’s death, through facebook. But I agree with your post, some people seem more interested when a celebrity follows them, or retweet them on twitter than other current affairs happening around the world at the moment, it’s getting pretty ridiculous!
Some celebrities do tweet about the news though.
Blogging about it, no matter how many visitors you get certainly does make a difference. I sometimes would read about new things I didn’t know about the world.
And thanks about your comments on my layout, I’ll try to fix that, sometimes my photoshop would mess up, and fonts would look all weird :S
You’re finally back to blogging- for now. XD! Hey, sometimes- things happen that makes you.. Want to blog less or something. Maybe- you need a new ‘outfit’? A new site name?
Thankfully, I don’t receive all of the news from any social networking sites. I am familiar with the horrid massacre done in Norway. And how irresponsible our congress is- shooting blames left and right instead of anything done. D:! We have like 5 days left!!
I’m not much of a celebrity follower- except for reblogging some Lady Gaga memes on Tumblr.- which I don’t know what she does from day to day ‘~’. But people are usually.. Too “stalkerish” to celebrities that they don’t know what’s going on in reality.
Reality over people who’s seemingly popular!
Your layouts are beautiful- like the one right now. Everyone has their own skills and heck, quality over quantity!
Thank you
! A lot of people have grown in several ways- I thought I was abnormal or something -__-! But I’m just the average joe after all
!
I’ve seen the dentist several times about my underbite. The dentist I’ve had for the past 10 years didn’t even notice anything until I was 12- which they refer me to the orthodontist which says that I need the surgery, nothing else. Though I wanted to tell my parents about some headbrace, but nieh. Life goes on
!
Take care, Tiffany (:
Can’t really say much that you haven’t already said. The sad thing is that some people are so fucking ignorant that they won’t listen to anyone else’s opinion. “Well, it’s my opinion~” There’s a big difference between having an opinion and being ignorant. It bothers me soooo much when people act like they care, but it’s really only because they want to look entitled because they’re so mature and care about worldly issues. That’s worse than not caring at all.
Everything in this post is so spot-on. I wish more people could have this realization.
Oh my god. Your blog has just inspired me so much. I feel the exact same way about this! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve come across a site and thought those exact same things and more. I did know about what happened in Norway, China, and our incompetent Congress. To me, (no disrespect to her at all) Amy’s death didn’t really have that much of an impact, and to what I’ve come to find out, no one really cared much. It’s sad these days that teenagers can’t take the time out of their OH SO BUSY lives and just get to know their surroundings. I don’t have a twitter for that reason, I don’t feel like everyone needs to know where I am or what I’m doing 100% of the time. Who gives a shit? I have a facebook, but I don’t spam it with stupid updates, I use it to connect with old friends and etc.
Thank you, Tiffany.
Annnd, I’m holding a Make Up Giveaway on my website and I thought you’d be interested!
http://www.ayevanity.com/hard-candy-giveaway/ (: check it out<3
Your blog sounds like an English discussion we would’ve had in one of my classes haha, very educational and very eye opening!
I’m pretty guilty of shutting off news and reading more gossip news instead. Good thing I know about all the actual news you listed (the bulle train, America’s debt, Norway news)! I usually just watch the news during dinner when my parents does. It’s true how one’s opinion can shape your own opinion. Knowledge is power!
Welcome back, Tiff!
I’m glad to see you blogging again.
I couldn’t agree more. I actually knew of the shootings in Norway long before I discovered the news about Amy Winehouse. I have been carefully watching news to see if our government has compromised yet about the state of our economy as well. I can’t say I care too much about celebrities and that stuff. I hardly even get on Facebook, which is probably why I have the least friends out of all of my friends, and I don’t care.
I think people need to quit obsessing over such trivial things, and focus on what’s really important, rather than blocking it all out. Blocking it out won’t not make it a problem. It will just lead you to be uninformed in a time when being informed is the most important.
And really, we do have every tool necessary to be informed. Yet these tools are instead wasted on the latest celebrity gossip and other drama. Which leads me to blogs, and how I again understand where you’re coming from. It is extremely irritating when you have to reply to somebody’s comment, only to discover that their blog is full of drama and other unreadables. I just don’t get it.
—
All frustrations aside, Thank you so much Tiff!
I’m so happy you like my layout. I think that was the first time you didn’t have a suggestion for me.
Don’t get me wrong; I love your constructive criticism.
But it’s nice to know that you like it enough that you don’t have any.
Well actually, my niece had suffered from chronic ear infections, which naturally deafened her hearing a bit. She got tubes put into her ears though, and she is all better.
Thanks for the tips! We have actually been doing similar things. We ask her often to tell us about her day and ask her questions all the time, which she answers very well. She’s a pretty smart cookie. I just saw her yesterday, and it’s crazy, because she is talking loads better than the last time I saw her. So she’s catching up fast.
I’m sure that’s exactly what will happen. When I actually am in college, it won’t be such a big deal, and I’ll take challenge as it comes. But that is true. The most important thing is to focus on the present.
Oh I completely agree even though I admit I am guilty of some of the things you mentioned. You make an excellent point!
And I do get irritated reading tweets like “omfg I can’t get the LV bag that I want, Oh no I can’t decide between Chanel and blah blah blah blah blah” It irritates me! To complain about not getting a thousand dollar purse just plain pisses me off when we all know someone who can barely buy groceries.
I get tired of my blog too. The main reason is because I’m a lot older than my readers. I just turned 26! The majority of my readers are college age and high school students. But I dunno, I keep it going barely..
Oh my god Tiff, please don’t leave me!
You may outgrow your favorite outfit but it’s those outfits that help shape who you are! THEREFORE, if you close this site, I will never speak to you again (actually write because we’ve never spoken) and if you ever come back to New York I will have you jumped!!! *angry rant closes* hehehe missed me?! Because I’ve missed you!
I was going to write something like this but not really but like the same concept but no and I’m rambling.
It’s a similar concept and maybe you’ll understand once I stop being lazy and really hone in on my focus and not leave it in my notes app.
ANYWAYS. I think people are so blind to what’s going on in the world because it’s not directly happening to them. And that was the idea for my next blog. It’s like this shooting is happening thousands of miles away from me, it doesn’t involve me, so I’m gonna tweet about Amy Winehouse instead! But I also feel like people are aware of the things going on but they turn a blind eye to it because facing it and realizing it’s real means their own trite problems aren’t the center of the universe.
“In a time in which you can access the occurrences across the globe in 10 seconds, you’d think more of us would be well-informed.”
I think this sentence is just the perfect combination of funny, sarcasm, and ridiculousness. Good job Tiff, good job. *pat on the back*
It’s sad now a days that no one seems to value the possibility of their impact on the world. A lot of days I wish the government would turn off all the shows on TV and just play world news and maybe people would stop being so obsessed about the newest episode of American Idol to see that governments are crumbling and people are dying. But of course that would be seen as propaganda or something because people just need their fix of Randy Jackson saying “DAWG.”
I just had a flashback to something from The Onion where they said something along the lines of “Breaking news! Celebrity shows underwear in public and the world goes to chaos!” which I think fits this perfectly.
Wow, very nice subject! I completely agree with you, it’s just too embarrassing to know that most of your friends are simply uninterested in the issues that really matter, whether they’re local or global, all they talk about is Britney is sober now and Chris Brown broke a window…
All the while people are suffering all over the world, and people are simply ignorant about everything. But what I hate more then ignorance is when ignorant people defend their ignorance with complete and utter nonsense. Like those who glorify Osama Bin Laden as a Muslim hero, as far as I’m concerned, he’s not even a real Muslim, and I hate it how some people defend him and call him a damn hero, I’m Muslim, and in my book, killing thousands of people is simple MURDER!
Anyways, very touchy subject, really appreciate that you brought it up!
I completely agree and could not have said it any better myself. I too find myself doing some of the things you mention, even though I am ashamed to admit these flaws I do. For example, Amy Winehouse’s death and the Norway bombing and massacre. I knew of her death first, from Facebook, then I checked to make sure it was legit through TMZ and Yahoo. However, I didn’t know much if not anything about the Norway catastrophe until I later asked my mother when she was talking about it. I completely agree with you on that however I do see how it isn’t that bad. I find that social networking sites are like an easier way to gossip and communicate about the stupid things us humans do on a day to day basis. I know what I am trying to say but I can’t put it into words. I also think that news industries also contribute to this problem. So far I have not heard that you can follow the local news on Facebook or twitter and get notifications about breaking news to your phone. However, you can follow TMZ and find out the latest celeb dish. Its kind of unfortunate that this is true.
As for the website thing, I’ve been the same way, and not to mention my inspiration has been shot and killed for the longest time and I can’t see to find the body (metaphorically speaking of course) However I hope you find your will or desire to work on your site more often like I am trying to do!
In my defense with the news… I only knew about Amy Winehouse thanks to my mail dashboard, and other than that, I’ve grounded myself from the news because I got so caught up in it and was really working hard on not being depressed, so…
I think it’s okay to be excited about some things for a while, though. I mean, there will always be something worse that happens than another, but it’s not good to get so caught up in it. It’s good to focus on things not relating to the news/happenings in the world sometimes.
People complain about stupid little things all the time. I know there are a lot of trivial things that people care about, but it doesn’t mean that more important world affairs should be ignored. I suppose I could sum everything up in one sentence I have been saying a lot lately: I am so fucking sick of hearing about the Kardashians. I’d go off on a rant beginning with “no one cares” but you get my drift.
I’ll admit I don’t read the news often but I do get a lot of my information from Twitter, particularly, and blogging as well! There are bloggers who whine about total shit, and others who actually bring world problems to my attention. I prefer the latter. I’d rather be well informed about something important and have everyone post about things in the world rather than… sorry, Harry Potter. There are so many posts that focus on just Harry Potter. There are posts that are just mundane and ramble on about how terrible school is and oh, I got a fucking pimple. For the love of god urihgdfhj. Some people just focus all their attention on celebrity gossip and at the end of the day, it’s just that – gossip. Perhaps these people have the feeling that somehow having such vast knowledge on public figures will get them somewhere in life. By that point, sadly, I think they will realise that their future is due to collapse.
Hi Tiffany. This post is very heart felt and passionate.
I don’t care much about celebrities, but I am also someone who doesn’t bother with current world news either. I’m not sure if this post is to target the audience that only spends their time doing useless thing, or if you are also including those that don’t follow current news, but do productive work. I just wanted to share my perspective.
I read once, “Stay away from things that stresses you.” There was a monk interviewed in a magazine who said “…I stay away from current news. I find that if a news is important enough, it will come and find me to let me know.” And I believe in that. Current news stresses me and sometimes it is downright depressing, so I believe that in some things, ignorance, truly can be a bliss. And sometimes current news is there to just unnecessarily frighten, stress, and worry us. So yes, like the monk has said, if the news is important enough, I would know about it because all around us, were surrounded by people, such as yourself, who likes to take on the stressful [or not] hobby/job of keeping up with current news. I once asked someone why he bothered, and he said “I just have to know what goes on in this world.” Fine with me, I respect that, and it is your prerogative. Just as it is my prerogative, to choose to stay current on skin care, health and nutrition, and our current situation of our environment, rather than on current world affairs.
I just have a different angle of interest in current news, or I may say I choose to be ignorant in current news.
I can almost, just almost, but not really, understand how stressful it is to be the president of a state. It is like taking on the whole worlds problem unto your shoulder. And I see people who cares about current world news and affairs, kind of like mini president. So I respect you for being so passionate in wanting to change. It is people like you, who inspire me to continue to be a better person.
if you don’t like what someone is blogging about then just don’t read it…everyone is entitled to blog about what they want. If you find joy in putting other bloggers down then maybe you should just leave…I get what you’re saying. But people blog for different reasons.
Just saying.

You missed the point of my blog completely. Your comment itself is pretty ignorant. If only we all could go through life turning the other cheek every time something we don’t like comes our way. I’m entitled to my opinion just as much as others are entitled to theirs.
I’m not putting down anyone & like you said yourself, if I were, people blog for different reasons, so why am I not allowed to express my disdain for blogs that complain about the most frivolous of things? Your reasoning is circular.
Reading your post really made me think about recent events/tragedies in the world. It does get frustrating that celebrities are the only main attraction on the media. Instead of using the world wide web for entertainment and catching up with the latest gossip, we should put it for good use and spread vital news instead.
This is going to sound harsh but to be honest, I didn’t care about Amy Winehouse. I mean I’ve never even heard her music. While it is sad that she passed away, I don’t think everyone should make a huge fuss over it.
I actually knew about the bombings in Norway before I knew about Amy’s death. I was more curious in hearing about Norway rather than her.
I’m glad I never read Perez Hilton’s blog because I know 80% of his stuff isn’t true (hence, the term gossip).
I hardly watch the news before but started to when my school had regular “current events” quiz (which I scored pretty badly). It was for the sake of the quiz at first but the habit of watching/reading the news stuck in me later on.
Sometimes I wonder why celebrities get a huge spotlight when all they did was showing up on TV to entertain us. The world doesn’t revolve around them. I agree about the Britney Spears part. People like her should be a good role model since so many people look up to her; instead of abusing the power.
I’ll try to complain less from now on and accept things from a different perspective.
I share your sentiments. I’m from Norway and I was completely appalled on how the US media covered the tragic event that shook our peaceful country.
On another note, I for one is guilty in complaining about problems, which is pedestrian in comparison to those people suffering in Africa or other poor countries. That’s why I always try my best to be thankful that I live a privileged life in a wealthy country.
I have only just re-entered the internet world after a long absence and I have been going around all sorts of websites to get inspired and excited again and this is the first time I have read a blog that has actually made me sit and think for a while. You are an amazing writer!
I think too many people rely on this comment: “Ignorance is bliss.” When in all reality it dooms our world… You see, regardless of my pacifistic “hippy” views on the world, at least I know what is going on. I try to change the world with hope, peace, and harmony, as do many others, but how do we know what to change, and such if we do not fully understand what is happening?
On a lighter note, thank for the comment! And I got a spiral notebook with the “Hard Day’s Night” cover on it, which I love, an Abbey Road journal and a new Penny Lane t-shirt haha.
That’s actually true. I mean, I knew about the Norway thing. And other news. But that’s just because my browser’s default (opening?) page is Yahoo. The news is just, there. And if it interests me, I read it. And if it doesn’t, I don’t.
Your post made me think about that. I mean, I barely know what’s happening in my own country.
I do. The typhoons, holidays, and things like that. I’m realizing that I’m growing up. I’m not a child anymore, and I need to be more aware of the things around me if I want to survive in this world.
Thanks, Tiff, for making me realize that!
Tiff my dahlink. We shall have to exchange skypes or something because I miss you so much I might DIE!
The fact that I don’t even have skype yet doesnt even matter. I shall get one and buy a webcam just for you. ;P
No really… I actually will have skype and a webcam within the next week… so its a date yeah? Hehe.

Ahh oh my goodness!! I hope you have Skype by now! Add me woman: TiffanyBeee! I sent you like 3 e-mails, but got nothing in return!! Where are youuu? You can just chat with me like normal too, no need for a webcam or anything. But yes, when you get it, it’s a date love!!
It was so nice to read a blog entry that actually had something meaningful to reflect upon, rather than those silly whining ones you mentioned. The fact that you brought this up is really admirable.
It really is sickening to see how our generation prioritize such meaningless things. Yes, Amy Winehouse’s death was sad, but she’s ONE PERSON. Countless of people around the world are suffering. There’s poverty, crime, war, etc, so when I hear somebody at school complaining about how they have too much homework and how hard their life is, it really does make me want to vomit.
That’s not to say that I myself am not guilty for doing such things. I’m as guilty as anyone else! But I feel that recognizing that we tend to do these things is the first step to changing it, and focusing more on the bigger problems in our planet.
Thank you for your blog entry!

You’re welcome! & absolutely, absolutely, absolutely. We’re all guilty of complaining about something stupid, but we shouldn’t forget about how lucky we are to be complaining about stupid things. I’m glad you got the point & message of my blog.
The first step is to recognize it, like you said. The second step is to do something about it.
I agree with you. Recently I’ve been trying to promote a cause to save dolphins and other wild animals from aquariums but because my blog is not too popular I tried to get help from more popular bloggers but they ignored me and continued to talk about all that shit about their boyfriends, clothes, money…all the superficial stuff that I seriously don’t think anyone cares about. I used to complain a lot, but recently my life has changed a lot and I no longer care about all these “first world” problems.
Reading this blog made me remember why I loved your site.
I haven’t visited in so long, solely because I’ve been too caught up with other things, but reading this made me want to start my website up again. Everything you’ve said has a great deal of truth behind it, and many people may comment otherwise, but its because they’re ignoring the fact that it is actually true. Society has become so obsessed with celebrities, that it makes me wonder who truly holds more power.
I agree with what you’re saying about the blogs. I don’t run my site anymore because everything I wrote about ended up being something petty; there was nothing remotely interesting or important. I hope other people read this and actually implement it. I hope you don’t leave because I do find your blogs interesting, but I guess there’s a time for everything. Maybe the time for aesthetic intoxication is coming to an end? (hopefully not!)
I think that if you lead a life so good that something so insignificant in the big perspective like a celeb retweet has great significance in your life, then you should enjoy every second and make the most out of those small joys.
I am from Norway, so in the last months, writing about small things like late trams, blogging about the weekend festivities, etc, has felt lame in consideration. But then I thought.. I am one of those lucky ones not affected by poverty, a corrupt country regiment or other problems like that, and I’m not sick. So I should be able to make the most of that, and enjoy what I got without feeling bad. It should be a human right to be happy about the small things in your life.
We should absolutely care more about the actual significant things in life, set our problems in perspective and show more care. But we should also be able to not just go around and be sad over the things that are bad.
Though everything is not lost, after our terror attacks, the whole nation inexplicably gathered together and cared for each other instead of showing hate and revenge. And that was really nice to see.
I still blog about how drunk I got one weekend, which festivals we went to, and how warm it’s getting outside, because those are the things that are my life. And I don’t really feel bad about that

I’m not saying that you shouldn’t blog about the small joys in life, I’m talking about the “struggles” people complain about all of the time, making it seem like it’s the end of the world. I complain about things all the time & I get really excited over small little things too, but that’s not the point. The point is that people who write blogs complaining about the stupidest thing for 5 paragraphs & how their life is over because of it, need to stop & reconsider their issue. I’m not trying to tell people to be sad about these things, I’m trying to put these things in perspective & to possibly ask them to pay attention to the world around them to be thankful of their not so poverty stricken lives. The title of my blog is “ignorance is not bliss,” not “stop enjoying your small joys in life,” do you get what I mean? I’m saying that being ignorant about these things because the Kardashians are more important is really pathetic.
Coming from a third world country, you see hunger all around you and it’s sick that it’s almost normal already especially with only the elites hogging the power up there. Only 2% are wealthy here and yet they own EVERYTHING. The disparity is crazy and that’s why I’m glad my university gives us the chance to go on an immersion, to live with the farmers, the indigenous people, the informal settlers, disabled, etc. It really gives you quite an eye opener.
I think that technology advancing is of no problem at all. Heck advance all they want, after all they’re the neutral ones. It’s us, humanity who chooses how to use these and when the typhoons came, you can’t believe how Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, and everything has helped us because we were all searching for our friends and trying to amass donations and volunteers who would help and these were really effective. Technology is great when used properly but ugh it is sad to see how the world is so not focused. We learned in Theology and Philosophy how people place themselves on a pedestal and forget everyone else. They just simply don’t care. And that’s the challenge I think, is to first care. Bill Gates and other billionaires like him are awesome for dedicating themselves to a cause. Now if only others can do the same, no matter the wealth. I still continue to blog, well only for a few posts a month if ever I need to tell people something of importance. Well sometimes petty problems are really there like *how do I get rid of this mice problem*
It’s been so long Tiff! I LOVE reading your blog and I’m sad that you’ve left before I could say goodbye
( I hope that you’d still see this comment though. I wish you well! Am still on Facebook and Twitter!
Oh check out this video

Ahh I haven’t left, I just took a really long hiatus. I’m just really absent ahaha, but I’m still around. I’m just now returning comments, how pathetic right?
But the wealth disparity here is huge as well. 1% of our population are the wealthiest & it’s part of the many reasons for Occupy Wall Street. Quite a powerful movement & probably one of the largest we’ve seen since the Vietnam protests because it’s nationwide & WORLD wide which is absolutely amazing. There are plenty that are protesting just to protest, but I think that overall, it’s gaining so much momentum & sympathy from so many countries & people, that it can’t just be ignored.
It’s great that your school has that immersion program, that actually brings chills up my spin knowing that you have the opportunity to really work with those in your community that supply you with resources you need.
Everything you said, I absolutely agree with. All of the social networking sites can be so useful when there’s a disaster, but for 99% of the time, it serves to just boost your own ego & we’re all guilty of it, heck we’re no exception. Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, & other billionaires that are pledging to donate ..what, half their wealth..? Yeah, that’s absolutely amazing. They can do SO MUCH with their money & I’m glad that they’re putting it to good use. It’s what I’d do if I friggin had a billion dollars!!
I was unaware of this genocide. :/ I really like Amanpour too. This is absolutely disgusting. Thanks for sharing this documentary with me, Tiff. I’m going to share it with some of my friends that are documentary buffs.
Ah, I feel you completely. For months, I’ve been attempting to blog about something anything on my site but I end up just deleting everything and thinking, “who cares?”, “this isn’t important”, “this is self serving bullshit”. But I keep trying and trying again for nostalgia sake.
Thankfully, I had heard of all those things and more, so I don’t have to feel 100% self absorbed.
I think one of the contributing problems is the age of the bloggers. Of course younger pre teen, teenage bloggers are self absorbed and care if celebrities follow them; they are egocentric by nature. I’ve recently really gotten into feminist blogs; I won’t say they’ve opened my eyes as I’ve always been aware of many of the topics, but they are a lot more interesting and less self absorbed than many other blogs that are out there.

Yes! You should always try just for nostalgia sake ahaha, but I absolutely agree…that most of the things we write end up being, “self-serving bullshit,” & I couldn’t have come up with a better term myself. It’s kind of why I decided to have my own private journal that is offline for the purpose of self-serving.
My other blog has nothing interesting to read, but it’s there for the purpose of pictures since I take pictures for my friends & for myself, & it’s a place for them to take the pictures haha.
Hrm feminist blogs huh? I can’t say I’ve seen any before, but I’ve always imagined them to be incredibly extreme. That’s probably a bad stereotype though. I have been trying to search the WWW for some interesting blogs. Sex, Love, & Liberation is a great one (sexloveliberation.com), but I haven’t really had a chance to read it lately. But again, I absolutely agree, age of the bloggers = reason for “omg justin biebz follow meeee.”

I’ll have to check that site out; seems interesting.
There are some extremes in the feminist blogosphere, but I think what most people don’t know is there is a difference between feminism (which I see as equal rights for all) and misandry (opposite of misogyny, it is the hatred of men). Blue Milk (http://bluemilk.wordpress.com/) is an interesting read, and I also recommend http://manboobz.com/, which is my current favorite. It’s a male blogger writing about the men going their own way movement and misogyny. A lot of interesting thoughts there. (Though much of what he covers is taken from these movements, and what he quotes can be really offensive).
